Art-in-the-Park

The West Park Civic Association’s Art-in-the-Park returns to Allentown’s tranquil, verdant West Park. The perennially-popular event features original works of fine art and crafts by 70+ artists from the Lehigh Valley and surrounding states.  Please join us for a delightful day and demonstrate your talents! The park is a treasure of Allentown’s historic West End and there is always a good turnout. Free exhibition space will be given to high school and college students. The show is being organized by a committee of volunteers chaired by art consultant/independent scholar Dr. Christine Isabelle Oaklander. Organizers are hard at work building a wider geographic pool of applicants exhibiting higher quality art in a range of mediums. Applicants will be vetted by Dr. Margo Hobbs, Associate Professor and Chair of the Art Department, Muhlenberg College and Ilene Hochberg Wood, aesthetic trendsetter and prominent art patron. Artist demonstrations in various mediums will be offered throughout the day. Cash prizes will be offered in a range of categories, with the winners selected by Dr. Kathleen Jameson, the new Executive Director & CEO, James Michener Art Museum and Scott Schweigert, Curator of Art & Civilization, Reading Public Museum.  Live performances, including the nationally-famous Allentown Band, will be presented throughout the day in the magnificent bandshell.  Food and drink will be available from a range of vendors. Join us in West Park for a celebration of the arts at a glorious season.
